The 0-5 New York Giants now have the same Super Bowl odds (300-1) as the New York Jets

The New York Giants were seeing a lot of betting action during the offseason as a favorite to make another Super Bowl run.  After an 0-5 start, and an injury to WR Odell Beckham Jr., those hopes are all but over.

By mid-August only three teams — the Oakland Raiders, Green Bay Packers and Dallas Cowboys — had attracted more bets to win the Super Bowl than the Giants. At 12-1, New York began the season with better Super Bowl odds than the defending NFC champion Atlanta Falcons.

One month later, the Giants find themselves with the same odds of winning the Super Bowl as the New York Jets at 300-1.

The Giants fell to 0-5 with Sunday’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers and saw star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. suffer a fractured left ankle.

Oddsmakers estimate Beckham is worth 1-3 points to the betting line. The Giants were listed as 6-point underdogs to the Denver Broncos in an early line posted before the Beckham injury. When betting lines reopened on this week’s game at Denver, the Giants were 10.5-point underdogs.

It will be interesting to see if the Giants will be favored in another game this year.  We’ve already seen what the Giants look like without him.  Beckham missed the season opener against the Cowboys, dealing with an injury to the same ankle. Without him, the Giants’ offense managed just 233 total yards in a 19-3 loss to the Cowboys.

In addition to Beckham, receivers Sterling Shepard, Brandon Marshall and Dwayne Harris also left Sunday’s game with injuries, adding to the early disappointment for the Giants, who drew consistent support from bettors in the offseason. At various major sportsbooks, the Giants’ season win total opened at 8.5 and was bet up to 9. The Giants were bet down from 25-1 to 12-1 to win the Super Bowl at the Westgate this summer.

It wasn’t big money and was almost all smaller bets, but it was a steady stream of action on the Giants leading up to NFL Week 1.

NFL: 2017 Fantasy Football Rankings, Sleepers and Busts

It’s that time of year again!  Fantasy football 2017!  It’s amazing how fast this year is flying by, but the good thing is, football season is right around the corner.

If you’re a seasoned fantasy football vet, or a rookie, we can help provide the tools you need to dominate your draft and set yourself up to have the best chance to win your fantasy football league.

Matthew Berry at ESPN is arguably one of the best experts to follow.  Not only is he entertaining, but his research and guidance for fantasy football is unparalleled.  During the NFL Season, he and his crew offer a free, daily podcast you can follow.  Here’s a link to one of them.

Each year, there are breakout stars.  If you have room on your bench during your fantasy draft, it’s wise (and fun) to add a flier or potential breakout star.  It’s normal to make this an emotional pick – by picking a potential star from your hometown team.  Just try not to make all of your draft picks emotional picks.  Sometimes you have to draft players from teams you dislike if you truly want to be competitive in your NFL Fantasy League.

Here are a few sleepers, busts and breakout stars to consider this year.

Sleeper: a player who will far surpass his average draft position (ADP) in standard ESPN leagues for the 2017 season.
Bust: a player who is expected to be a solid starter in standard ESPN leagues but will fail to live up to those expectations this season.
Breakout: a player who will leap into or close to the upper echelon of players at his position for the first time because of a dramatic increase in production compared with his previous seasons (or a rookie who will burst on the scene).
